This year was the first year we could actually take Freya out and have a little more than a blob with us. She is able to walk and explore all while we are also exploring new places.
When fall started I knew I wanted to do something that we can do every year in almost any place we will live. This is important since we are a military family and will move again at some point.
As I started looking into some activities I came across something my husband and I had never done together before. APPLE PICKING!! We are so lucky her in upstate NY. There are plenty of farms to pick all sorts of fruits at different times of the year. So we looked into a few and found one we just knew we had to try.
Located about an hour from our house, tucked away deep into Mexico NY is Behling Orchards. It was crowded but you would never know as soon as you start to walk into the lines of apple trees. They have so many to choose from but since I'm the only one besides the dog that likes apples I wanted honey crisp!!
We could have walked the two minutes to the honey crisp trees but what fun would that be when we were given the option to ride on a flatbed pulled by a tractor. So you know we definitely took advantage and had them haul the three of us and the stroller down the road through the mud puddles and crushed apples that had fallen off another tractor at some point during the season.
If you know me, then you know I made my husband pick Freya up and I took some photos of the two of them. I am kinda a stranger to being in front of the camera but he made sure to take some of me and her as well. I lugged my tripod along for the adventure to see if I could capture some of the three of us. I was lucky and got quite a few I was happy with.
As we finished our family photo session, I started to pick a few apples to take home. Let me tell you they were huge. Half pound apples!! I have never see honey crisps so big. I was so excited to make Freya try them as soon as we got home. I wanted to see what kind of face she would make. She of course looked at me like a crazy but eventually did like them, at least a little bit.
When we were all paid and ready to leave since it was unusually hot that day. we stopped by the main building. They have all sorts of food and drinks to choose from as well as pre-picked apples. They to my surprise also had gourds and pumpkins also for sale. But to my delight they had FUNNEL CAKES!!!! My all time favorite fair food is funnel cake and I was so excited to eat one since I hadn't had one this year.
Freya now loves funnel cake. Oops!!! Sorry not sorry on that one lol!
We were pretty tuckered out by the time we got home but I would say it was an adventure to remember! And finally a new family tradition that we can enjoy and hopefully Freya will love too!
